Microscopic analysis of Green Propolis

The green propolis produced in the State of Minas Gerais presents in its pollinic spectrum pollen grains of Astronium, Eucalyptus, Vernonia polyanthes and Baccharis dracunculifolia, which indicate the geographical origin of green propolis.

The green propolis produced in the State of Minas Gerais, under climatic conditions, presents vegetal fragments of Baccharis dracunculifolia in its microscopic analysis. Green propolis derives from Baccharis dracunculifolia, since it presents several fragments of this plant in its sediment. In order to ratify this information, an anatomical study that uses optical microscopic techniques and scanning electronic microscopy techniques was performed. To be considered green propolis, the propolis must present in its microscopic analysis from 90% to 100% of fragments of epidermis, glandular trichomes and non-glandular trichomes of Baccharis dracunculifolia, and less than 1% of other resiniferous sources.
